Our Story
Our farm is located on the banks of the Connecticut River, in Plainfield, New Hampshire. It was purchased in 1950, by William and Hazel McNamara. Since 1950, the farm has adapted, changed, diversified and grown tremendously. When they started, they had 1 cow, no children, no electricity in the house, one stove and an outhouse. Today, we have four generations of McNamaras that live and work on the farm (which includes a fully functional, running water etc, house where Gram still lives!).
Today our farm is a family owned and operated farm, where we process and bottle our own milk in glass bottles under our label McNamara Dairy, produce 100% wood fired maple syrup under our own label of Mac's Maple, raise chickens for our farm fresh Mac's Happy Hens eggs and a raise a small beef herd. In between our daily farm chores of milking and feeding animals, we raise all of our own cow crops, we harvest most of the wood used to build our barns, the firewood to heat our homes, and fire our sugar arch, off our own land and we maintain sugar orchards. We are very busy down here on River Road, which has allowed all five of the third generation kids to come home and work on the farm.
We are pleased to be able to offer our maple products online for your convenience. We spend a lot of time out in the woods, trudging through snow, fighting the bitter cold, and hiking up and down the hillsides in order to prepare our sugar orchards for a few precious sap runs in the early New England spring. It is a passion of ours and we are happy to share it with you!
We hope that you enjoy our maple syrup, and that if you cannot come visit us in person that you enjoy getting to know us via our facebook page and this website. Thanks for visiting.
